Sports Massage
A specialised session focused on accelerating muscle repair and reducing inflammatory response after high-intensity training.
Used as a maintenance tool it can help prevent injuries and keep muscles flexible and in good condition between workouts.
A sports massage a couple of days (typically 24 to 72 hours) before an event is highly beneficial for loosening tight muscles, and increasing range of motion, provided it is light-pressured and non-invasive. The primary goal at this stage is preparation and circulation enhancement, not deep tissue work or fixing long-term injuries.
A sports massage 1 to 3 days (24-72 hours) after an event is highly beneficial for recovery, specifically targeting muscle tightness and soreness (DOMS). While immediate post-event massage (within 1-2 hours) helps with immediate flushing, a follow-up session 48-72 hours later is ideal for deeper, restorative work once the initial acute inflammation has subsided.
Pre & Post Event Sports Massage
Sports massage pre and post-event serves distinct, crucial roles:
Pre-event uses fast, light, brushing techniques to increase circulation, warmth, and flexibility for performance.
Post-event uses slow, gentle, flushing strokes to reduce soreness, remove waste products, and aid recovery.
Both enhance athletic performance and prevent injury.
